Laser Toner Refill Question?
I just purchased a Samsung SCX-4521F MFP Laser. At the moment the toner is fine but i want to get ready to replace the toner when it begins to run out.
On ebay.ca there is mention of:
65 grams toner refill kits + reset fuse for the model of for $5CDN (+$5 shipping). This sounds interesting tho I have no idea of 65 grams is enough to refill the toner cart and what the heck is a reset fuse?
Thanks
A reset fuse is a chip that is contained within the cartridge .This reads how much toner is left and how many more copies you will get out of the cartridge. Most Re-manufactured toner cartridges are already refilled and reset for you.Saves you alot of trouble.I came across this website couple weeks ago.You should take a look.Good Luck
My advice, if you have no idea.. Do not try it. It can go horribly wrong and you can destroy your new printer.
Toners are smart chipped the reset fuse override this. I am not sure if 65 grams is enough or even too much. You have a starter cartridge now, they are sometimes designed a little differently than the Replacement cartridges.
Any now why you don’t refill toner cartridge:
1. Toner dust is TOXIC, unless you have a fume hood and a hepa filtration respirator to wear don’t bother, you really do not want to breath toner dust.
2. Toner Cartridges have moving parts that breakdown with age. If one seizes you will have not only a broken cartridge, possibly a broken printer.
3. Pull out the toner and tell me where you would actually fill. It is not an easy process.
4. while that toner is out, notice that green roller? That is electrostatically charged. That breaks down, and without that roller charging properly your machine will just spit toner into everything.
5. The drum unit is attached to the toner cartridge. It is a waste collection unit designed for single use, it will need to be cleaned in order to get the cartridge functioning properly, I am willing to put money on the fact that you have no idea how to even go about that, or even where to find the drum.
In short don’t do it. There is a reason toner refill kits are hard to find. You can buy a new cartridge for $70 CDN. You will get 3000 pages out of it and you can rest assured it won’t destroy your $300 printer.
Not a great deal….
a) the cartridge holds 90g. The 65g bottle indicates in was packaged for a Lexmark E210.
b) the imaging drum in the cartridge rarely lasts two cycles…a reputable refiller will replace drum with every fill.
c) the doctor blade in the cartridge will definitely not last two cycles…again this needs to be replaced with every fill.
d) even those in the refill biz can’t/wouldn’t buy $5 toner.
The reset fuse is for the toner level indicator. It allows your printer to recognize the cartridge as full instead of empty. There is no “Smart chip” on this cartridge, it’s a little electrical fuse 63 mAmp. Here on Ontario, you can buy 5 for $2.50.
I’d find a reputable company in your area and buy their remanufactured cartridges. No mess, full guarantee, save money.
do not get a refill kit for a toner base unit just buy a new one cause with a toner base unit they can get very messy and if the unit leaks then you will be buying a new unit
I’ve refilled cartridges before, the toner usually runs out long before the cartridge wears out. I just refill them, I doubt my printer will be damaged by refilling the cartridge. I bought a CD that resets the chip on the toner cartridge off ebay for my Samsung SCX-4828FN. That bypassed the low toner warning.
